What sets Cypress Truck apart from other OTR companies?

Do I need to have previous flatbed experience to hire on as an Cypress driver?
Absolutely not. Many of our experienced hires have little to no flatbed experience. If you are a van driver, tanker, reefer, you name it, then you already have the driving skills needed. We will provide you with two to six weeks of flatbed securement training and you will be paid $100 per day with a $500 a week maximum. If you have 6 months verifiable flatbed experience you will be assigned a truck after orientation and a road test. All drivers will be evaluated for proper securement know how and will be trained accordingly. All new drivers will attend an orientation in either Jacksonville, FL ,Tampa, FL, Smyrna, GA, Abilene, TX or Wilmington, NC. Experienced drivers-$100 per day for orientation, with a $500 per week max.
Is there a sign-on bonus?
Cypress is currently paying a $2,000 sign-on bonus to experienced flatbed drivers who have more than 6 months experience. After 30 days $250, 90days $250, 6 months $500, 9months $500, 12 months $500. You must make it to your scheduled date for orientation. If you reschedule or do not show up you are NOT eligible.
Does Cypress hire Owner Operators?
No, Cypress does not hire owner operators at this time.
Does Cypress hire teams?
We have some teams but are currently not recruiting teams. The majority of our freight delivers in a day and the length of haul is not advantageous for teams. This can change based on customer needs but we have no opportunities for teams at this time.
I applied at Cypress. How do I find out about my application’s status?
After you submit an application to Cypress, either online or by fax, you will need to call the recruiting department 1-800-545-1351 and make sure the application was received. Standard time for processing is usually 1-2 days.
What is the Cypress Truck home time policy during training?
We know how important home time is for everyone; however, we cannot guarantee this during training. It’s best to plan to be out for two weeks for our training.
Where will I attend Cypress Truck orientation?
All new drivers will attend an orientation in either Jacksonville, FL,Tampa, FL, Smyrna, GA, Abilene, TX or Wilmington, NC.
How long is Cypress Trucks orientation?
Orientation is normally 3 days. However if you are in the Jacksonville class you will go through a Thursday log class.
What mode of transportation does Cypress use to get me to and from orientation?
If you live outside of 50 miles of the terminal where you will be attending orientation, Cypress will provide you with a Bus ticket.
What will I need to bring to orientation?
What will the dress attire be?
Dress is casual but no shorts, tennis shoes, sandals or cowboy boots.
You will also need work boots - preferably non-slip if possible. Don’t forget extra clothes for your stay.
How much will I be paid during orientation?
You will be compensated $100.00 a day during orientation. With a $500 maximum for a week.
Will I have to go with a Cypress Driver Trainer?
Anyone with less than six months of flatbed experience will ride with an experienced trainer for 6 weeks. Anyone with six months or more flatbed experience will be evaluated and assigned 2 to 6 weeks of training. Once you are in orientation just how much flatbed securement training you will need will be determined at that time.
What should I bring with me to Cypress Trucks orientation?
It all depends upon who you are. Your best bet is to bring whatever you don't want to purchase once you arrive, however don't get too carried away. Bring just what you need and nothing more. Your recruiter will provide you with a more detailed list once you are scheduled to attend orientation.
Is lodging and food provided during orientation?
Lodging is provided during your orientation stay. Unless you live within 50 miles of the terminal you are attending orientation at. ALL meals are up to the individual.
What can I expect on day one of orientation?
Orientation will start promptly at 8:00am! Do NOT be late! Abilene, Tx will start promptly at 8:30am. You will have a DOT physical and drug screen. All of your TLC (payroll and insurance) paperwork will be taken care of at this time. You will watch instructional videos and there will be some short teaching sessions.
What type of physical work is required to be a Cypress flatbed driver?
Like most OTR jobs, the majority of your time will be spent behind the wheel, but being a flatbed driver does tend to be more physically involved than other types of trucking. You will be required to pull yourself up on the trailer and loads. You will be required to secure straps and chains as well as tarping. There are distinct advantages to being a flatbed driver, and the most obvious is that you get a chance every day to work outside and get a little physical activity to break up the long hours of driving.
Will I have to take a Cypress physical and drug screen?
Yes. Just about every trucking company in the business will require this whether you've just recently had one or not. In addition, sleep is your best friend. Get a good night's rest on Sunday and stay away from a large breakfast, sweets, and caffeine.
What type of truck will I get?
Cypress Truck has a wide variety of equipment, we run Peterbilt, Freightliner, Kenworth, International. Cypress currently has about 400 units on the road.
Is the truck assigned to me or do I have to slip-seat?
All trucks are assigned.
Does Cypress Truck have a van division?
We have a limited van division that dispatches mostly out of Jacksonville, FL and Smyrna, GA.
Does Cypress Truck use electronic logging?
Not at this time, but the industry as a whole is beginning to transition to this method.
Are there any additional endorsements/requirements I need to obtain to drive for Cypress Truck?
We do not require any endorsements

Our drivers take their equipment home under the condition that they live 50+ miles from one of our terminals, and they have a safe and secure place to park.
How much tarping will I have to do and do I get paid for it?
Fortunately, 95% or our loads are preloaded and pre-tarped. However when you do have to live load, tarp or poly, we have accessorial pay.
How much money can I make?
Depending on how many miles you are able to get; Cypress drivers make anywhere between 50,000 and 75,000 a year.

If you meet our hiring standards and your application is approved by our Driver Applicant Review Committee we can help you. We will require you to complete some refresher training with us. This can amount to an extra week to 4 weeks after Orientation depending on your specific needs. The Training Department will evaluate your skills after you arrive for Orientation and determine the amount of time you will train before being assigned your own truck. Recruiting will give you an estimate before you come in but that will only be an educated guess.

- If you were self employed within the last 10 years please bring verification. (W2’s or Tax Forms)
- If you have had a time of unemployment within the last 10 years please bring verification. This includes letters from friends and family (not including immediate family) or unemployment check stubs.
- Drivers license and SS card or ( birth certificate if SS card not available)
- Copy of your DD214, if you were in the service within the last 10 years.
- Beneficiaries names, addresses, and SS#’s.
- Voided check or a deposit slip along with your banks address and phone number. (For Direct Deposit)
