What Happens After Cypress CDL School?
Passing the CDL test feels like the finish line, but for a new driver it is really the start of the next stage. Ken Codere and Randy Wells walk through how Cypress prepares new CDL holders for the transition from school into orientation and continued on-the-road training. The goal is not to rush someone into a truck. It is to make sure they are ready before they are expected to make decisions on their own.
The second half of the episode brings that process to life through Tim Bonner and Camren Snowten, two Cypress drivers who had only recently begun running their own trucks when the episode was recorded. Their stories show how training, mentorship, and support continue well beyond earning the CDL.
In this episode, you’ll hear about:
- What happens after graduating from Cypress CDL School
- How new CDL drivers transition into Cypress orientation
- What Cypress looks for before a driver moves to the next stage of training
- Why drivers are not handed the keys until they are ready
- How support continues after a new driver begins running independently
- How Tim helped Camren work through challenges with his pre-trip inspection
- Why mentorship and teamwork matter for new CDL drivers
- How discipline, coaching, and trusting the training process can help build confidence
From CDL Student to Professional Truck Driver
One of the biggest themes in Episode 32 is confidence. New drivers are expected to learn a tremendous amount in a relatively short period, and earning a CDL does not mean every skill suddenly becomes second nature.
Tim and Camren’s experience shows why having the right people around you matters. When Camren was struggling with his pre-trip, Tim helped him work through it until the process became familiar. Instead of competing with one another, the two new drivers helped each other improve.
That same approach carries through Cypress CDL School, orientation, and driver training. Drivers continue learning as they gain experience, and the support does not end simply because they have moved into their own truck. The episode offers a realistic look at how a new CDL holder develops into a confident professional driver.
